Phytochemical study on Euphorbia milii, a common ornamental plant, resulted in the identification of thirteen new ent-rosane diterpenoids (1-13), three new ent-atisane diterpenoids (14-16), and a known ent-rosane (17). Their structures were delineated using spectroscopic data, quantum chemical calculations, and X-ray diffraction experiments. Euphomilone F (1) represented a rare ent-rosane-type diterpenoid with a 5/7/6 skeleton. Euphoainoid G (8) was a rare rosane diterpenic acid. Compounds 9 and 10 carried infrequent tetrahydrofuran rings, and compounds 11-13 was 18-nor-ent-rosane diterpenoids. All isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory effects on RANKL-induced osteoclasts. Notably, compounds with aromatic ester groups (2-7) showed promising activities (IC50 < 10 µM), underscoring the significance of acylated A-ring moieties in the ent-rosane skeleton for anti-osteoclastogenesis. Thirteen synthetic derivatives were obtained through esterification of 17. Of these, compound 27 exhibited remarkable improvement, with an IC50 of 0.8 µM, more than a 12-fold increase in potency compared to the parent compound 17 (IC50 > 10 µM). This work presents a series of new ent-rosane diterpenoids with potential antiosteoporosis agents.

Research on the comprehensive utilization of sour jujube and its beneficial properties to human health has attracted extensive attention. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the bioactive profile of sour jujube and future trends in applications. The research advancements within this field from 2000 to 2023 were addressed using the Web of Science database and VOSviewer. Among the 322 results, the most frequent keywords of bioactivity are flavonoids, antioxidants, saponins, insomnia, polyphenols, terpenoids and anti-inflammatory; the most studied parts of sour jujube are seeds, fruits and leaves; the published articles with high citations mainly focus on identification, biological effects and different parts distribution of bioactive compounds. The bioactivity of various parts of sour jujube was reviewed considering their application potential. The seeds, rich in flavonoids, saponins and alkaloids, exhibit strong effects on central nervous system diseases and have been well-developed in pharmacology, healthcare products and functional foods. The pulp has antioxidant properties and is used to develop added-value foods (e.g., juice, vinegar, wine). The leaves can be used to make tea and flowers are good sources of honey; their extracts are rich sources of flavonoids and saponins, which show promising medicinal effects. The branches, roots and bark have healing properties in traditional folk medicine. Overall, this study provides a reference for future applications of sour jujube in food and medicine fields.

BACKGROUND: Brassica napus is an important oilseed crop providing high-quality vegetable oils for human consumption and non-food applications. However, the regulation between embryo and seed coat for the synthesis of oil and phenylpropanoid compounds remains largely unclear. RESULTS: Here, we analyzed the transcriptomes in developing seeds at 2-day intervals from 14 days after flowering (DAF) to 64 DAF. The 26 high-resolution time-course transcriptomes are clearly clustered into five distinct groups from stage I to stage V. A total of 2217 genes including 136 transcription factors, are specifically expressed in the seed and show high temporal specificity by being expressed only at certain stages of seed development. Furthermore, we analyzed the co-expression networks during seed development, which mainly included master regulatory transcription factors, lipid, and phenylpropane metabolism genes. The results show that the phenylpropane pathway is prominent during seed development, and the key enzymes in the phenylpropane metabolic pathway, including TT5, BAN, and the transporter TT19, were directly or indirectly related to many key enzymes and transcription factors involved in oil accumulation. We identified candidate genes that may regulate seed oil content based on the co-expression network analysis combined with correlation analysis of the gene expression with seed oil content and seed coat content. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, these results reveal the transcriptional regulation between lipid and phenylpropane accumulation during B. napus seed development. The established co-expression networks and predicted key factors provide important resources for future studies to reveal the genetic control of oil accumulation in B. napus seeds.

Chemical index components, especially those defined as quality control (QC) markers through spectrum-effect relationship approach, are commonly suggested and adopted as indicator for quality control of Traditional Chinese Medicines (TCMs). However, are chemical index components and quality control of TCMs "never change a winning team"? In this study, under the ponderation of the applicability of QC markers strategy, spectrum-effect relationship and OPLS-DA between GC×GC-MS fingerprint and inhibitory effect on the expression of extracellular secretory TNF-α of volatile oil from Bupleuri radix (BVO) was studied with the purpose of discovery of QC markers and establish a bioactive compounds-based QC method. 290 compounds of BVO were identified by GC×GC-MS. Besides, BVO had significant inhibitory effects on the expression of extracellular secretory TNF-α in a dose-dependent manner. The potency of different batches of BVOs could be distinguished with this bioassay-based method, which has been validated in terms of intermediate precision, repeatability, linearity, range and credibility tests. The QC markers of BVO were investigated by Spearman's correlation test and OPLS-DA. It is regrettable that there were no ideal QC markers of BVO could be found. In conclusion, quality control method relayed on chemical QC markers is not feasible for TCMs with complex composition but lack of ingredients that dominate in content, just like BVO. Alternatively, a bioassay-based method established in our study is suitable for quality control of BVO.

Purpose: Gandouling Tablets (GDL), a proprietary Chinese medicine, have shown a preventive effect against Wilson's disease (WD)-induced neuronal damage in previous studies. However, the potential mechanisms need additional investigation. Combining metabonomics and network pharmacology revealed the GDL pathway against WD-induced neuronal damage. Methods: The WD rat model with a high copper load was developed, and nerve damage was assessed. Total metabonomics was used to identify distinct hippocampus metabolites and enriched metabolic pathways in MetaboAnalyst. The GDL's possible targets against WD neuron damage were then determined by network pharmacology. Cytoscape constructed compound metabonomics and pharmacology networks. Moreover, molecular docking and Real-Time Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR) validated key targets. Results: GDL reduced WD-induced neuronal injury. Twenty-nine GDL-induced metabolites may protect against WD neuron injury. According to network pharmacology, we identified three essential gene clusters, of which genes in cluster 2 had the most significant impact on the metabolic pathway. A comprehensive investigation identified six crucial targets, including UGT1A1, CYP3A4, CYP2E1, CYP1A2, PIK3CB, and LPL, and their associated core metabolites and processes. Four targets reacted strongly with GDL active components. GDL therapy improved five targets' expression. Conclusion: This collaborative effort revealed the mechanisms of GDL against WD neuron damage and a way to investigate the potential pharmacological mechanisms of other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

BACKGROUND: Seed oil content is an important agronomic trait of Brassica napus (B. napus), and metabolites are considered as the bridge between genotype and phenotype for physical traits. RESULTS: Using a widely targeted metabolomics analysis in a natural population of 388 B. napus inbred lines, we quantify 2172 metabolites in mature seeds by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, in which 131 marker metabolites are identified to be correlated with seed oil content. These metabolites are then selected for further metabolite genome-wide association study and metabolite transcriptome-wide association study. Combined with weighted correlation network analysis, we construct a triple relationship network, which includes 21,000 edges and 4384 nodes among metabolites, metabolite quantitative trait loci, genes, and co-expression modules. We validate the function of BnaA03.TT4, BnaC02.TT4, and BnaC05.UK, three candidate genes predicted by multi-omics analysis, which show significant impacts on seed oil content through regulating flavonoid metabolism in B. napus. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates the advantage of utilizing marker metabolites integrated with multi-omics analysis to dissect the genetic basis of agronomic traits in crops.

Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is the second most common autoimmune rheumatism. Huoxue Jiedu Recipe (HXJDR) is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine with a variety of pharmacological functions; however, its biological function in SS has not been studied yet. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and serum samples were isolated from healthy controls and patients with SS. NOD/Ltj mice were used for developing the SS mouse model. The levels of inflammatory cytokines and NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome-related markers as well as dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) were determined by ELISA, quantitative real-time PCR, and western blot analysis, respectively. Hematoxylin and eosin and TUNEL staining detected the pathological damage. A transmission electron microscope was used to observe the mitochondrial microstructure. Inflammatory cytokines IL-18, IL-1ß, B-cell activating factor (BAFF), BAFF-receptor (BAFF-R), IL-6, and TNF-α in serum samples and NLRP3 inflammasome-related makers (NLRP3, cysteinyl aspartate-specific proteinase 1 [caspase-1], apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase-1 recruitment domain [ASC], IL-1ß) in PBMCs were greatly upregulated in patients with SS. Furthermore, cytoplasmic phosphorylation of Drp1 and mitochondrial Drp1 level were significantly increased in PBMCs, while mitochondrial swelling and fuzzy inner ridge were observed in PBMCs of patients with SS, suggesting increased mitochondrial fission. Compared with control mice, SS mice showed decreased salivary flow rate, increased submandibular gland index, and more severe inflammatory infiltration and damage as well as mitochondrial fission in submandibular gland tissues. After HXJDR administration, these effects were significantly reversed. HXJDR treatment could alleviate the inflammatory infiltration and pathological damage in submandibular glands of SS mice by inhibiting Drp-1-dependent mitochondrial fission.

BACKGROUND: Activation of renal fibroblasts into myofibroblasts plays an important role in promoting renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF). Ginkgo biloba extract (EGb) can alleviate RIF induced by cisplatin (CDDP). PURPOSE: To elucidate the effect of EGb treatment on cisplatin-induced RIF and reveal its potential mechanism. METHODS: The two main active components in EGb were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. Rats were induced by CDDP and then treated with EGb, 2ME2 (HIF-1α inhibitor) or amifostine. After HK-2 cells and HIF-1α siRNA HK-2 cells were treated with CDDP, EGb or amifostine, the conditioned medium from each group was cultured with NRK-49F cells. The renal function of rats was detected. The renal damage and fibrosis were evaluated by H&E and Masson trichrome staining. The IL-6 content in the cell medium was detected by ELISA. The expression levels of indicators related to renal fibrosis and signaling pathway were examined by western blotting and qRT-PCR. RESULTS: HPLC analysis showed that the contents of quercetin and kaempferol in EGb were 36.0 µg/ml and 45.7 µg/ml, respectively. In vivo, EGb and 2ME2 alleviated renal damage and fibrosis, as well as significantly decreased the levels of α-SMA, HIF-1α, STAT3 and IL-6 in rat tissues induced by CDDP. In vitro, the levels of HIF-1α, STAT3 and IL-6 were significantly increased in HK-2 cells and HIF-1α siRNA HK-2 cells induced by CDDP. Notably, HIF-1α siRNA significantly decreased the levels of HIF-1α, STAT3 and IL-6 in HK-2 cells, as well as the IL-6 level in medium from HK-2 cells. Additionally, the α-SMA level in NRK-49F cells was significantly increased after being cultured with conditioned medium from HK-2 cells or HIF-1α siRNA HK-2 cells exposed to CDDP. Furthermore, exogenous IL-6 increased the α-SMA level in NRK-49F cells. Importantly, the expression levels of the above-mentioned indicators were significantly decreased after the HK-2 cells and HIF-1α siRNA HK-2 cells were treated with EGb. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that EGb improves CDDP-induced RIF, and the mechanism may be related to its inhibition of the renal fibroblast activation by down-regulating the HIF-1α/STAT3/IL-6 pathway in renal tubular epithelial cells.

Considerable evidence indicates the important role of gut microbiota in human health. Through the interaction with the host and diet, it secretes a myriad of metabolites to modulate biological processes essential for health. Cognitive impairment is a common feature of psychiatric and neurological disorders, which may seriously damage the quality of patients' life. Studies have found that cognitive impairment has a close relationship with gut microbiota, and plant polysaccharides intervention to maintain intestinal micro-ecological balance has a great impact on ameliorating cognitive impairment. This review introduced the interaction between gut microbiota and plant polysaccharides, and focused on signaling pathogenesis of gut microbiota in cognitive impairment. The effect of plant polysaccharides intervention on regulation of gut microbiota was also discussed, so as to provide a promising strategy for ameliorating cognitive impairment.

Ca/Fe-rich antibiotic fermentation residues (AFRs), a type of hazardous waste, can be regarded as recyclable biomass and metal resources. However, concurrent detoxification and reutilization of biomass and metals resources from AFRs have never been reported before. In this study, Ca/Fe-rich vancomycin fermentation residues were pyrolyzed into biochar to adsorb phosphate for the first time. The residual vancomycin and antibiotic resistance genes were completely decomposed during pyrolysis. The resultant Ca/Fe-rich biochar exhibited excellent performance at adsorbing phosphate without further modifications. The process had rapid kinetics and a maximum adsorption capacity of 102 mg P/g. Ca and Fe were the active sites, whereas different mechanisms were observed under acidic and alkaline conditions. Surprisingly, HCO3- enhanced phosphate adsorption with an increase of adsorption capacity from 43.9 to 71.0 mg/g when HCO3- concentration increased from 1 to 10 mM. Furthermore, actual wastewater could be effectively treated by the biochar. The phosphate-rich spent biochar significantly promoted seed germination (germination rate: 96.7 % vs. 80.0 % in control group, p < 0.01) and seedling growth (shoot length was increased by 57.9 %, p < 0.01) due to the slow release of bioavailable phosphate, and thus could be potentially used as a phosphorous fertilizer. Consequently, the hazardous waste was turned into phosphorous fertilizer, with the additional benefits of detoxifying AFRs, reutilizing biomass and metal resources from AFRs, controlling phosphate pollution, and recovering phosphate from wastewater.

The staling of wheat starch in storage seriously damages the quality of starch-based foods, and how to delay the staling has become a topic focus. To solve the problem, this study analyzed the effect of garlic peptides on the physical and retrogradation behaviors of wheat starch during storage. The rheological, pasting, swelling properties, molecular order, water migration, and microstructure of wheat starch gels were evaluated. Our results showed that garlic peptides effectively reduced the storage and loss modulus of wheat starch. The physical properties indicated that garlic peptides suppressed the swelling and gelatinization of starch, which exhibited higher water holding capacity and lower water migration. In addition, garlic peptides incorporated wheat starch exhibited the lowest gel hardness during storage. X-ray diffraction and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis indicated that garlic peptides could reduce the crystallinity and inhibit the formation of ordered structures in wheat starch gel. The microstructure observation showed that the gel with garlic peptides maintained the integrity of the network structure. Consequently, garlic peptides are expected to be an effective natural additive to inhibit starch staling and provide new insights for starch-based foods.

BACKGROUND: Regulation of gene expression plays an essential role in controlling the phenotypes of plants. Brassica napus (B. napus) is an important source for the vegetable oil in the world, and the seed oil content is an important trait of B. napus. RESULTS: We perform a comprehensive analysis of the transcriptional variability in the seeds of B. napus at two developmental stages, 20 and 40 days after flowering (DAF). We detect 53,759 and 53,550 independent expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) for 79,605 and 76,713 expressed genes at 20 and 40 DAF, respectively. Among them, the local eQTLs are mapped to the adjacent genes more frequently. The adjacent gene pairs are regulated by local eQTLs with the same open chromatin state and show a stronger mode of expression piggybacking. Inter-subgenomic analysis indicates that there is a feedback regulation for the homoeologous gene pairs to maintain partial expression dosage. We also identify 141 eQTL hotspots and find that hotspot87-88 co-localizes with a QTL for the seed oil content. To further resolve the regulatory network of this eQTL hotspot, we construct the XGBoost model using 856 RNA-seq datasets and the Basenji model using 59 ATAC-seq datasets. Using these two models, we predict the mechanisms affecting the seed oil content regulated by hotspot87-88 and experimentally validate that the transcription factors, NAC13 and SCL31, positively regulate the seed oil content. CONCLUSIONS: We comprehensively characterize the gene regulatory features in the seeds of B. napus and reveal the gene networks regulating the seed oil content of B. napus.

Three aryl ketones-derived porous organic polymers (ATP-POPM, ATP-POPP and ATP-POPO) were fabricated through the aldol condensation reaction of acetylated triphenylsilane precursor (ATP) with different aromatic aldehydes for the first time. The ATP-POPM exhibited superior extraction capacity toward phenylurea herbicides (PUHs). A sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of six PUHs in water, tea drink and mushroom samples was developed with ATP-POPM as solid phase extraction adsorbent prior to high performance liquid chromatography ultraviolet detection. Under the optimized conditions, the linear response of PUHs was 0.09-80.0 ng mL-1 for water, 0.18-100.0 ng mL-1 for tea drinks and 4.50-200.0 ng g -1 for mushroom samples. The detection limits (S/N=3) of the method were 0.03-0.10 ng mL-1, 0.06-0.18 ng mL-1, 1.50-4.50 ng g -1 for water, tea drink and mushroom, respectively. The method recoveries for spiked samples were in the range of 80.7%-116.0%, with relative standard deviations less than 10.3%. The results proved that the established method was sensitive and suitable to detect PUHs with acceptable accuracy and precision. This work provided a powerful tool to synthesize promising adsorbent by aldol condensation reaction for detecting six PUHs simultaneously in real samples.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is one of the main complications of diabetic patients and the major reason for the high prevalence of heart failure in diabetic patients. Fufang Xueshuantong (FXST) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula commonly used in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy and stable angina pectoris. However, the role of FXST in DCM has not yet been clarified. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of FXST on diabetic myocardial lesions and reveal its molecular mechanism. The rats were intraperitoneally injected with 65 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ) to induce diabetes mellitus (DM). DM rats were given saline or FXST. The rats in the control group were intraperitoneally injected with an equal amount of sodium citrate buffer and gavaged with saline. After 12 weeks, echocardiography, heart weight index (HWI), and myocardial pathological changes were determined. The expression of transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-ß1), collagen I, and collagen III was examined using immunofluorescence staining and western blot. The expressions of Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway-related proteins and mRNA were detected by western blot and real-time PCR. The results showed that FXST significantly improved cardiac function, ameliorated histopathological changes, and decreased HWI in the DM rats. FXST significantly inhibited the expression of myocardial TGF-ß1, collagen I, and collagen III in DM rats. Furthermore, FXST significantly inhibited the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. Objective: To identify the effect of spirulina supplementation on the immune cells' indicators of young soccer players during the preparation period of a tournament. Methods: 39 undergraduate male soccer players were recruited and randomly allocated into a spirulina supplementation group (SP group, n = 20) and the placebo supplementation group (PB group, n = 19). Their elbow venous blood samples were collected before and after the preparation period of a tournament, which included 8 weeks total. The differences within the group and between groups were recorded and analyzed. Results: The ratio of the basophils in the SP group between the pre-test and post-test were statistically significantly different (p < 0.05). In the PB group, the percentage of before and after in leukocytes and monocytes were statistically significantly different (p < 0.05). In the data of the post-test, the percentage of monocytes and basophils between the SP group and PB group were statistically significantly different. The delta variations of monocytes between groups were significantly different (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Intense long-duration exercise can reduce the ratio of leukocytes and monocytes in young athletes, yet the spirulina supplement can inhibit the change. It also might improve immunity to parasites, pathogenic bacterium, and rapid-onset allergies.

Oral nutrition interventions are commonly applied as an assistant therapeutic approach, which could affect the balance of the immunological response but with mixed evidence. The objective of this study is to identify the potential of different oral nutrition interventions for blood immune cell parameters in cancer patients. Randomized controlled trials, which were published in peer-reviewed journals in the language of English, and which identified the effects of different oral nutrition interventions on cancer patients, were screened and included in the databases of PubMed, Medline, Embase, and Web of Science. White blood cell count (WBC), lymphocyte count, CD4/CD8, and neutrophil count were selected as outcome measures. For the result, 11 trials were included. The agreement between authors reached a kappa value of 0.78. Beta-carotene supplementation has a high potential in inducing a positive effect on blood immune cell parameters for cancer patients (first positive for WBC and CD4/CD8, second positive for lymphocyte count), as well as a combination of physical exercise and hypocaloric healthy eating intervention (first positive for lymphocyte and neutrophil count, second positive for WBC). Oral nutrition supplementations with a single substance have less potential to provide a positive effect on blood immune cell parameters for cancer patients (glutamine: 0.30 and 0.28 to be the last selection for WBCs and lymphocytes; Omega 3: 0.37 to be the last selection for WBCs; Protein: 0.44 to be the last selection for lymphocytes; Zinc: 0.60 to be the last selection for neutrophils). In conclusion, the programs of immunonutrition therapy for different cancer patients might be different. The past perception that mixed oral nutritional supplementations are superior to oral nutritional supplements with a single substance might be wrong and the selection of oral nutritional supplementation need cautiousness. A combination of physical exercise might have a positive effect but also needs a higher level of evidence. Registration Number: CRD42021286396.

Background: The nursing goal of patients with cancer is to provide them with holistic care, including physical, psychological, and social adaptation, and spirituality. This research aimed to explore the influence of the social workers' empathy ability on suicidal ideation of patients with cancer and its path. Methods: There was a sum of 358 patients with cancer and the 45 social workers serving them participated in the survey. Data of their self-efficacy, depression symptom, stigma, and suicidal ideation were measured before the social work provided (T1) and 3 months after the social work finished (T2) were collected and compared. Pearson correlation analysis was used to assess the relationships between social workers' empathy ability and patient indicators at T2. The influence path of social workers' empathy ability on cancer patients' suicidal ideation was explored by path analysis at T2. Results: At T2, patients reported higher self-efficacy and lower depression symptoms, stigma, and suicidal ideation than at T1. At T2, social workers' empathy ability was positively related to patients' self-efficacy and was negatively related to depression symptoms, stigma, and suicidal ideation. Social workers' empathy ability affected patients' suicidal ideation directly. In addition, patients' self-efficacy, depression symptoms, and stigma played mediating roles in the influence of social workers' empathy abilities on their suicidal ideation. Conclusion: Social workers' empathy ability not only directly affected cancer patients' suicide ideation but also affected suicide ideation through the mediating roles of self-efficacy, depression symptoms, and stigma. Therefore, the improvement of the empathy ability of medical social workers needs to be paid attention to.

Fragesin, a traditional Chinese medicine, has been shown to exert anti-inflammatory effect. The aim of this study was to figure out the possible effectiveness of the fargesin, and to invest the mechanisms by which it works in the cadmium-induced lung injury in mice. Fargesin was given 1 h before cadmium treatment for 7 days. Then, the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were harvested to test inflammatory cells and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. Lung histopathological changes, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, and aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) activation were measured. Fargesin dose-dependently reduced inflammatory cells and pro-inflammatory cytokines in BALF, improved lung histopathological injury, and inhibited lung wet/dry ratio and MPO activity. Furthermore, fargesin inhibited cadmium-induced NF-κB activation. In addition, fargesin was found to increase AhR expression. In conclusion, fargesin attenuates cadmium-induced lung injury may be via activating AhR, which subsequently suppressing the inflammatory response.

The phytochemical investigation on Atractylodes chinensis afforded 15 polyacetylenes 1-15 and one meroterpenoid 16. Of the 16 isolates, compounds 4 and 9 are new ones, and compounds 8 and 16 are first reported from nature. In addition, the relative configuration of 1 and the available NMR data of compounds 1, 8, and 16 were first provided. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of MS, UV, IR, and NMR spectroscopic data. Besides, all isolated compounds were evaluated for their effects on RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis in BMMs. Among them, polyacetylenes 12-14 showed potent inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 0.67 ± 0.05 µM, 0.72 ± 0.31 µM, and 2.40 ± 0.41 µM, respectively. The current work demonstrates the polyacetylenes are the main active constituents of A. chinensis against osteoclastogenesis.

Vegetable oils are an indispensable nutritional component of the human diet as well as important raw materials for a variety of industrial applications such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, oleochemicals, and biofuels. Oil plant genomes are highly diverse, and their genetic variation leads to a diversity in oil biosynthesis and accumulation along with agronomic traits. This review discusses plant oil biosynthetic pathways, current state of genome assembly, polyploidy and asymmetric evolution of genomes of oil plants and their wild relatives, and research progress of pan-genomics in oil plants. The availability of complete high-resolution genomes and pan-genomes has enabled the identification of structural variations in the genomes that are associated with the diversity of agronomic and environment fitness traits. These and future genomes also provide powerful tools to understand crop evolution and to harvest the rich natural variations to improve oil crops for enhanced productivity, oil quality, and adaptability to changing environments.
